I was neither a night person nor a spiritual explorer, I just wanted a relaxing vacation sunbathing on the beach and doing my yoga exercises in a hushed resort without any interruption. As so, I chose Koh Samui. If you love the idea of an island retreat or if you are like me, a beach lover, I believe Koh Samui has enough to offer everything you need.
Knowing Koh Samui is a beautiful island covered with coconut palm trees. It also owns a great collection of stunning beaches from the lively East coast Chaweng or Lamai to other quieter tropical hideaways. This island, in addition, is as well a fabulous place for an amazing journey to the neighbor Ang Thong national marine park, where contains 42 different mesmeric islands that feature limestone massifs, tropical rainforests and deserted beaches. I was so eager to start get to Koh Samui.
To reach Koh Samui, I had to, firstly, take a transit flight from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok. The airport was not so far from the center of the city. As we got on board for our departure, the plane ride was quite short. Soon right after we took off and finished having our on-plane delicious light breakfast, we were already coming on the island.
For my first impression, the island was actually a lot bigger than it looked on the pictures. After we finished checking our luggage, we took a ride on one of the taxis that parked outside. The fare was not so much expensive and the driver welcomed us with a friendly attitude which literally contributed to giving Koh Samui even a higher score in my favorite travel destinations list.
Our accommodation of choice was Six Senses Resort – a luxuriously appointed resort which was set around a gently loping headland and breathtaking panoramas. The first word that came to my mind as the doorbell guy holding the door opened for us was total relaxation. The resort was extremely quite and meditative, seemingly perfect for my travel expectation. There was also a private beach within the grounds of the resort, just a short walk down from the gym. I definitely couldn’t ask for more whenever I needed somewhere calm to get my yoga training done.
Having a 4 days and 3 nights stay at Koh Samui, me and my spouse spent most of our day hung around the hotel. We either sat on the beach, watching each wave hitting the shore continuously and letting our mind wander freely to find its peace or we spent the night at Club Lounge, sipping cocktails and chilling out. I could tell you that Koh Samui would undoubtedly be a wonderful place to consider if you were planning on a passionate honeymoon with your fiance or if you were simply just looking for somewhere to have a restfully romantic break with your significant other. There were also a quite few seafood restaurants if you would like to have a taste of the island’s tasty specialties. Our favorite was the Coyote Samui Restaurant featuring a Filipino Band. Only less than 100 Bahts per glass of cocktail, it would always be a great start to get on your lovely evening with some good live music and your favorite concoction of drinks.
Koh Samui has brought me a memorable and unforgettable vacation. A truly astonishing place to escape from the narrow street and busy life. A place where you can live your life at a slower speed and to find your self within the surroundings of magnificent nature.
