The ancient city of Mrauk U in Myanmar was first established in the 15th century. To get to this secret destination, you will have to spend 5 hours going on boat through the Kaladan River from Sittwe.
Mrauk U used to be known as one of the most prominent cities in Southeast Asia but also the name of a powerful kingdom by Gulf of Bengal from 15th to 18th century.
Apart from the massive flat terrain area, Myanmar is also surrounded by plenty of high mountain ranges and old and thick forests. Amidst that setting, the city of Mrauk U is still able to showcase the traditional charm that is unlike any other cultures in the region. If you could visit Mrauk U hundreds of years ago, you would have seen a busy trading port with lots of traditional houses located along the riverside. In addition to that are plenty of big monasteries rising above the lower landscape. The most popular trading items here are fish and vegetables. The men often bring fresh fishes back from the ocean whilst the women sell them on the market along with other fresh vegetables that they cultivate.
